I'm new. And I have a question. :) [Nov. 22nd, 2007|01:54 am]

My name is Marlana and I'm 18. This is my first post! I have only one tank that I have kept for about two years now. I had two Black Moors that recently passed away.

Now, my question: I saw an adorable fish in the pet section at WalMart. I don't plan to buy my fish at WalMart, but I saw an adorable little group of fish that I would love to put in my aquarium. No one working in the pet section was around to help, so I figured you all might know.

It's hard to describe what the fish looked like, but I'll try. They were round and "fat", almost like little circles. They had a dark pattern on their light colored bodies - I called it a leopard pattern. The tank that was holding these fish was the only one not labeled. The only label nearby read "Green Potter". I tried Google and got no answers!

Thanks in advance!

Solve my guppy problems!! [Jul. 10th, 2007|11:53 pm]

I have a massive question.

I had a female guppy. She was pregnant. I had her for 31 days, all of whcih she was prego for. I had her in the hatchery, waiting for her babies to spill out of her ever growing bump. I could see about 8 seperate sets of eyes through her belly, I know it was almost time!! Then suddenly she had this growth out of her anal area. It looked like a hemroid....then she died & took my babies with her!!

What was the growth? Why did she die??? I still have yet to have a guppy give me babies!

Superglue in fish tanks? [Jun. 22nd, 2007|01:00 am]
The Fishie Files

frankthepirate
I'm thinking about making tank dividers like these ones, but was going to glue the binder bits into a frame so the whole thing can be pulled out and clipped into place elsewhere if needed instead of being stuck in the tank. I was wondering if superglue would be safe, as I can't find pure silicon sealant anywhere in town. My plan is to cut the canvas, glue the binder bits on all 4 sides, then put it in the tank and hold it in with clips on the top and suction cups on the bottom (bare bottomed breeding tank)

Any ideas? I can get a tiny tube of sealant but its like at pets at home and has less stuff in it then a small tube of toothpaste.

The tank is my betta tank in the bedroom, to separate a male and female betta, if that matters :) Its planted with live plants of all sorts.

thanks all!

      Problem:

I decided that I wanted little Guppy babies, so I went off to the pet store and purchased 4 females. I was hoping they would make my two males very happy.  At least 3 of them are expecting and I think so is the fourth. Two of those four look as if they might explode. I did some research online & say that I should get a fish hatchery. I went to my local pet store, bought the one with the fry trap to keep the little buggers safe from mom. I placed the two females that I'm expecting to go first into the hatchery, but I don't want to stress them into aborting their litters. How can I be sure that they are ready to be placed into the hatchery? I read that the gestation cycle is about 28-40 days. If I don't know how long they were expecting for before I bought them, how I can I begin to guess about a possible birthday?? Also read something about a black dot around the anal fin or something, but none of mine have that; but again, look like they might explode.

please help me before I kill my little fishy babies!!

Problems with my bettas (2 pics) [Apr. 7th, 2007|09:46 pm]

First, Erick is changing colours, which is a bit weird. Or is that normal? The black is spreading and he's getting metallic sea green stripes as seen in pic below.

Second, Mr Melinko's tail has many splits from a fight at the pet shop, and some of the splits go straight to his fin base, what can I do to help him heal besides frequent water changes? Should I add salt or something?

Thanks all in advance! More pics of Erick are Here and more pics of Mr Melinko are Here

Comet-weird behavior [Jan. 28th, 2007|07:26 pm]

Hi, I am new to this group. It is cool to know that there is a group
out there like this. Anyway, I have a question about my comet
goldfish. He seems to be having issues getting to the bottom of the
tank, like he has to work extra hard to get down there. As a result he
spends most of his time at the surface of the water. I have seen him
turn to his side a couple times, kind of like he is bobbing back and
forth. I am not sure what to do. I am really worried about him! Any
suggestions as to what I can do will be appreciated. Thanks!
